Georgia Space Flight Act

Georgia Legislature Passes Indemnity Legislation

On February 15, 2017 the Georgia Senate passed Senate Bill 46. Yesterday, the Georgia House passed HB 1 Georgia Space Flight Act.  Both houses of the Georgia legislature passed their version of the Georgia Spaceflight Act with strong support. Below is a statement from Steve Howard, Camden County Manager and spaceport project lead.

Statement of Spaceport Camden Lead Steve Howard on the Passage of SB46 and HB1

Spaceport Camden Project Leader, Steve Howard, offered the following statement on the passage of SB46 and HB1 in the Georgia General Assembly:

“For more than a year, we have worked with leaders in the Georgia House and Senate to develop legislation that demonstrates to the commercial space industry that Georgia is open for business.  I am proud to report that the industry has been watching.  Since the passage of SB 46 yesterday, I have received several calls and inquiries from industry participants that are recognizing Georgia is serious about space. Passage of HB 1 today will only continue to drive that message home”

I look forward to the General Assembly passing a final version of The Georgia Spaceflight Act and presenting it to Governor Deal for his signature.  With the Governor’s support, Georgia will not only be the best state to do business, but the best state to go to space.”
